Mike Booras

Mike Booras joined the Harvard University Department of Athletics as an athletic events intern in August 2009 while completing a master's degree program in Sports Leadership at Northeastern University. Mike, a native of Scituate, Mass., graduated from Colby College in 2005 where he was a four-year letterwinner on the football team and co-captain his senior year. As a freshman, Mike also competed for the varsity ski team.  Following graduation, he remained at Colby as an assistant varsity football coach for three years and varsity skiing coach for two years.

In his new position as assistant director with the Harvard Varsity Club, Mike oversees the Friends fundraising efforts for rowing, sailing, tennis, and water polo.  He will also serve as the primary event manager for all Friends-related events.  Mike currently resides in Quincy, Mass.

Grace Clark

Grace Clark is in her fourth year with the Harvard Varsity Club and fifth year working for the Harvard Athletic Department. This is her second year of being the liaison for the Friends of Harvard Skiing and Golf.

A 2006 graduate from Fordham University majoring in Communications and Media Studies, Grace was an active member of the Athletic Department for the Rams.  She started as the manager of the Women’s Basketball team her freshman year and became a walk-on player her senior year. Grace  also was a student trainer for the football team and an intern for WFUV, the student run professional radio station.  While at Fordham, she became the creator, producer, writer and on-air reporter for the Fordham Nightly News entertainment segment.

Working towards completing her Master’s in Sports Management with Canisius College, Grace also takes various classes through the Harvard Extension School.

Bob Glatz '88

Bob Glatz has been the Executive Director of the Harvard Varsity Club since July of 1997.  Bob was a starting running back on the 1987 Ivy Champion football team and graduated from Harvard with a degree in psychology in 1988. Prior to arriving at the Varsity Club, Bob was the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at the Hackley School in Tarrytown, NY, where he also coached varsity lacrosse, JV and varsity football and some basketball.

Neil Murphy

Neil Murphy, hired in November 2008, is one of the newest assistant directors of the Harvard Varsity Club, but by no means unfamiliar with Harvard Athletics.  Neil, an Abington, Mass. native, attended Westfield State College where he lettered for four years and captained for two years the varsity baseball team before graduating with a bachelor’s degree in movement science.  Prior to beginning his professional career in the Harvard University Department of Athletics in August 1998, Neil attended Springfield College as a two-year graduate assistant with the baseball program and earned a master’s degree in athletics administration.

At Harvard, Neil has served in various capacities over his twelve year career.  Most recently, as assistant director of athletics, Neil oversaw five varsity sport programs including men’s & women’s ice hockey, men’s & women’s water polo, and wrestling.  He was also responsible for managerial oversight of intercollegiate scheduling and team travel, and was the institutional contact for ECAC Hockey.

With the Varsity Club, Neil will work primarily with the Friends of Harvard football, hockey, baseball, softball, men’s & women’s volleyball, and polo club to support their fund raising efforts.  He and his wife Amy currently reside in Scituate, Mass.  The couple has two sons, Ryan and Quinn, and a daughter, Eleanor.

Melissa Schellberg '10

Melissa Schellberg is the youngest member of the Harvard Varsity Club team, beginning as the Special Assistant in July of 2010. She graduated from Harvard in May of 2010 with a degree in Psychology and liked Cambridge so much, she decided to stay.

In her undergraduate days, Melissa spent most of her time across the river in the athletic facilities. A softball player, she was committed to community outreach and worked with the Harvard Athletic Department to increase the number of volunteer projects for all 41 teams at Harvard. Her focus on the community earned her the Francis J. Toland Community Service Award and named her a top 5 national finalist for the Wooden Citizenship Cup.

Melissa is very excited to join the Varsity Club staff and looks forward to working with both alumni and students to help make the Harvard Varsity Club a team for life. Outside of the office, Melissa plans to work towards her masters while trying out new sports like squash and flag football.

Kristen Schmidt

Kristen Schmidt made the move from an assistant field hockey coach at Harvard to the Varsity Club in September 2006.  Kristen, a Greenfield, Mass. native, attended the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where she was a member and captain of the nationally ranked UMass field hockey team before graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science.  While an assistant coach at Harvard, Kristen attended Boston College, earning a master’s degree in Administrative Studies.

Kristen came to the Varsity Club as a staff assistant, and was promoted to Assistant Director in August of ‘08.  She works with HRFWA and the Friends of Basketball, Fencing, Field Hockey, Lacrosse, Soccer, Squash, Swimming & Diving, Track & Field and Wrestling to support their fundraising efforts.  Kristen currently resides in Watertown, MA.
